"Hawk Talk," is a communication vehicle that helps inform students, staff, and even parents of events and items of interest, relating to COHS and the community.
Purpose:
This club is a collaborative effort between students of all grade levels and the faculty moderator. Students will develop relevant skills with work experience on a newspaper including: organization, problem solving, time management, collaboration, and writing/editing.
Meetings:
The Newspaper will meet at least once a month, as a whole, to discuss and plan the upcoming issue. In between, students are encouraged to use the library before and after school or during free periods to work on assignments and discuss plans with the moderator. We also have presenters through the year from local media to discuss their careers. This would include The Buffalo News, The Tonawanda News, and WNY Catholic.
All students are welcome to join this club. They can give as much or as little time as they have. Students from all grade levels are encouraged to participate. Students will be encouraged to attend school activities, take photographs, and conduct interviews. We will discuss the aspects of journalism, styles or writing, and some basic graphic design. Our goals and lessons also align with NYS Learning Standards of English and Technology.
