Driver Education Fall 2023 Session
Driver Education for All Area High School Students
Cardinal O’Hara High School is offering our Driver Education Program for Cardinal O’Hara students and high school students in the community. Our program, taught by trained professionals, offers students both behind the wheel and classroom instruction in compliance with the New York State Education Department. Satisfactory completion of the program requires 24 hours of vehicle and 24 hours of classroom instruction as well as successfully passing the written and driving skills tests.
Students must have valid New York State Permit or License prior to the start of first class. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis and classes fill up fast.
Course Overview
16 In-Classroom Sessions: Every Thursday, October 5, 2023 – February 8, 2024 Students are required to attend all 16 sessions of in-person classroom instruction. No classroom instruction on November 23, 2023 (Thanksgiving Day) and December 28, 2023 (Christmas Recess). Students may have no more than 2 absences, and absences are only allowed for medical or unavoidable emergencies. Make-up classes are required for any absence.

Cost: $750.00 per student. $100.00 deposit is due with registration and the balance of $650.00 is due the first day of class.
Benefits of Driver Education:
Students who complete all 24 hours of classroom requirements, all 24 hours of in-car requirements and pass this course will receive a NYS Department of Motor Vehicles form MV-285 and insurance certificate which allows:
- Senior driving privileges (driving past 9 PM) at 17 years of age
- Possible reduction in insurance premiums by auto insurance companies
